As Dr. John Mackay said, ", . . . commitment without
reflection is fanaticism in action." There are those
who believe in a "blind faith," however,
Christianity is based on a faith that's founded on
fact.
Once an individual is convinced or persuaded by the
facts presented, he or she will make a decision to
trust or not to trust their lives to God. If a
person does decide to accept Christ as their Savior,
then as Jesus Christ said in Scripture,, "If you continue in my
word, then you are indeed my disciples,
and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free." (Jn. 8: 31-32). The latter is
speaking of the personal experience of the believer,
who comes to know or understand the truth by
experiencing fellowship with God, which goes beyond
his or her initial knowledge of the evidence.
These experiences are also fact to the individual
experiencing them.
Jesus Christ had much to say about the world we live in,
the problems we suffer, and the hope He offers now
and into eternity. History has much to say about
Jesus Christ and His followers in Scripture and in
other secular writings.
I would like to recommend a very good book that
addresses these types of issues: The New Evidence
that Demands a Verdict by Josh McDowell.
In addition, the Gospel of John is also an excellent
place to start familiarizing oneself with the good
news of Christ and His identity as "the truth, the
way, and the life."
